Egg costs have increased dramatically as of February 2025 for several reasons.

1. Bird Flu Outbreak: To stop the virus from spreading, millions of egg-laying hens have been culled due to a serious avian flu outbreak. More egg-producing birds have been sick since January—roughly 14.7 million—than in 2023. As a result, the amount of eggs produced has decreased by 4.5% from the year before.

2. Supply Chain Disruptions: Due to a sharp decline in the number of chickens that lay eggs, there is now more competition among buyers, which has raised prices. New York, the Midwest, and California have all seen increases in wholesale prices to $7.24, $6.84, and $8.35, respectively. Although somewhat lower, retail costs have nevertheless increased significantly.

3. Policy Decisions: The present administration's directives to eliminate more than 100 million chickens to combat avian flu have further reduced egg supplies, which has led to an increase in prices.

4. Trade levies: By upsetting supply chains and raising the cost of imported agricultural products, recent levies on imports from Canada and Mexico are predicted to worsen food inflation, notably egg prices.

The national average for egg prices in December 2024 was $4.15 a dozen, with some regions seeing even higher prices due to these combined factors. Prices might continue to change as long as these problems exist because the situation is still fluid.

Bird Flu (็ฆฝๆตๆ„Ÿ, Qรญn Liรบ GวŽn) in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Bird flu (avian influenza) is viewed in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as an external pathogenic invasion primarily caused by Wind, Heat, and Dampness toxins affecting the Lungs, Spleen, and Wei Qi (Defensive Qi). TCM aims to strengthen immunity, clear toxins, and harmonize Qi to restore balance in the body.

1. TCM Pathogenesis of Bird Flu

๐ŸŒฌ A. External Wind-Heat Invasion

✔ Symptoms → Fever, chills, cough, sore throat, headache, muscle aches

✔ Cause → Wind-Heat pathogen enters the Lungs, impairing defensive Qi

๐ŸŒง B. Damp-Heat Toxin in Lungs & Stomach

✔ Symptoms → High fever, nausea, vomiting, chest tightness, diarrhea

✔ Cause → Damp-Heat accumulation disrupts the digestive and respiratory systems

❄️ C. Qi & Yin Deficiency with Heat

✔ Symptoms → Prolonged fever, dry cough, night sweats, fatigue, weak pulse

✔ Cause → Weak Wei Qi (immune system) allows pathogens to persist

2. TCM Herbal Treatment for Bird Flu

A. Early Stage – Expelling Wind-Heat

๐Ÿ”น Yin Qiao San (้“ถ็ฟ˜ๆ•ฃ, Honeysuckle & Forsythia Powder) → Clears Heat, detoxifies, relieves sore throat

๐Ÿ”น Sang Ju Yin (ๆก‘่Š้ฅฎ, Mulberry Leaf & Chrysanthemum Decoction) → Treats cough, mild fever

B. Severe Stage – Clearing Damp-Heat & Toxins

๐Ÿ”น Huang Lian Jie Du Tang (้ป„่ฟž่งฃๆฏ’ๆฑค, Coptis Detox Formula) → Clears Heat & Fire toxins

๐Ÿ”น Pu Ji Xiao Du Yin (ๆ™ฎๆตŽๆถˆๆฏ’้ฅฎ, Universal Toxin-Expelling Formula) → Treats swollen throat & fever

C. Recovery Stage – Strengthening Qi & Yin

๐Ÿ”น Sheng Mai San (็”Ÿ่„‰ๆ•ฃ, Generate Pulse Powder) → Restores Lung Qi & Yin

๐Ÿ”น Ren Shen Bai Du San (ไบบๅ‚่ดฅๆฏ’ๆ•ฃ, Ginseng Detox Powder) → Supports weak immune systems

3. Acupuncture & Acupressure for Bird Flu

๐ŸŒก Points to Reduce Fever & Expel Pathogens

✔ LI-4 (Hegu, ๅˆ่ฐท) – Expels Wind & Heat

✔ LU-7 (Lieque, ๅˆ—็ผบ) – Opens Lungs, relieves cough

๐Ÿซ Points to Strengthen Immunity

✔ ST-36 (Zusanli, ่ถณไธ‰้‡Œ) – Boosts Qi & resistance

✔ SP-6 (Sanyinjiao, ไธ‰้˜ดไบค) – Strengthens Spleen, clears Dampness

4. Diet Therapy for Bird Flu

✅ Recommended Foods

✔ Lung-Clearing → Pear, white radish, lotus root, mung beans

✔ Immune-Boosting → Garlic, ginger, shiitake mushrooms, ginseng

✔ Hydrating → Herbal teas (honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, peppermint)

❌ Foods to Avoid

๐Ÿšซ Spicy & greasy food → Aggravates Heat

๐Ÿšซ Cold & raw foods → Weakens digestion & immunity

5. Prevention & Lifestyle Advice

✔ Wear a mask & avoid crowded areas to prevent Wind invasion

✔ Drink warm herbal tea daily to strengthen immunity

✔ Keep the body warm and avoid excessive sweating

The invasion of wind-heat and damp-heat poisons that harm the lungs, spleen, and wei qi is how TCM views avian flu. Herbs, acupuncture, and diet are used to improve immunity, eliminate toxins, and drive out germs.
